O - Oval

Welcome to the Everything ABC's Blog Hop!For this hop we will be featuring the letter O. This may be the name of a paper, a stamp set or an embellishment. Whatever the crafter has chosen as their O element will be featured in their post.

If you came from Linda Norman - Scrappy Therapy  then you're on the right track!

Do you ever use sketches to create cards? I love sketches. Sometimes I just want to change it up a little because everything looks a little too sharp and square. SO ... Ovals to the rescue. (of course you can use circles too, but that doesn't start with "O")

These cards are all made with sketches from the new Make It From The Heart book from Close To My Heart. AND they use almost ALL new product too. Enjoy!!

Happy Accident

Have you ever made a mistake?  That's a rhetorical question.

When you make a mistake how do you recover? That's probably a better question.

When you're paper creating it seems like there aren't any mistakes that can't be overcome. AND sometimes the mistake turns into something better than your original plan. Check out this title ...

Although it's a lovely design, "Mr. & Mrs." looked a little blah to me at first so I tried to go around the edges with my silver metallic marker. AND of course I slipped in a few places, which took blah to yikes. I scribbled over my mistakes because my plan was to start over. BUT the scribbling made me curious so I continued. Now I look like a creative genius (in my opinion). I love all of these scribbled embellishments, which were scary easy to make. These hearts were another mistake. First cut ... too small. Second cut just right ... but I can't toss away any paper. So ... scribble and layer. TADA!!  Another lovely look by mistake.

So ... get out there a screw a few things up!!

This layout is from the CTMH Make It From Your Heart book ... pattern #6, which I affectionately call "illuminate".  The paper pack is called Moonlight. In case you thought it was just for Halloween, look again.

MIFYH Friday

Tomorrow a new event starts at my house ... Make It From Your Heart Friday.  I know, it's a long name, not too catchy. That's ok, because the patterns in this new great book are more than catchy.

Right now your looking at Pattern #5 using the Avonlea paper pack. We're going to make this pattern and #1because both use cuts of a similar size. BUT the layouts look nothing alike. That's one of my favorite parts. I'm not ready to show off the other layout yet so you'll have to trust me.

Here are few close up looks at the embellishments
... rub ons, bling, ribbon and a few pieces from my slate mini - medleys pack.

MIFYH Family Love

The blank space is for my journalling. It's private and sentimental so I wrote after this photo.

Are your kids back in school yet? We have a whole weekend left, but some of that time will be spent moving boys back to college. <Sigh>

I adore my family. Even when they aren't around it's so rewarding to pick up a scissors and make a scrapbook layout about something fun we've done together. Paper makes it all possible : )

This layout was made using the new Make It From Your Heart book that I featured a couple of weeks ago. Click on the Upcoming Events tab to see how you can make some great layouts like this too.

Color Dare #11 and .....

This is my entry in the Color My Heart color dare. There were 6 colors put out there and I managed to include 5. These color dares are almost always a stretch for me, but I LOVE being taken outside of my box. Every day really is an adventure when you decide to take part. It's really pretty easy to sit back and do the same old things you always do. I encourage everyone to get out there and try something new. Take a little "detour" from your routine to take on some of the adventure that's out there.

This card is also from the Make It From Your Heart book that I showed you yesterday. There are 12 card designs along with the 16 layouts. The card above is made from "pattern 20".

I Found It

Generally I refuse to choose a favorite anything. I have a variety of top 3 lists, but not anything I'd call my absolutely above and beyond everything else favorite. You might catch me saying, "this is my favorite paper pack ... today."

I didn't think I could ever choose a favorite product in the current Idea Book but I think I found it.  Nope, it's not the Cricut Artiste (which I adore). It's not a particular stamp set or paper pack. My favorite item is new. It's the Make It From Your Heart how to book. I can call it my favorite because it helps me get the most out of all of the other products in the book. Yes, I already have all of the other CTMH how to books, which I also love. BUT this book is affordable and manageable. I've already put together several layouts with a variety of products to create my own version of these great designs. Plus there are card designs too. It's the best of everything.

Combination of Canvas Shapes and the Cottage Assortment.
Here's Pattern 7 ... if you have the book, check it out. All of the papers are cut the same. Doesn't it look different?  I'm sure you could make every pattern in this book several times and no one would ever know.

There's a First for Everything

NEW!!  That's the overall word to describe this card. New Color, Ruby ... New Ribbon ... New Bling ... New Stamp Set ... New Tools ... 2 New Techniques. The new techniques are the scary part.

Believe it or not I've only tried heat embossing a few times. Wait, I'm sure you'll believe that!! Of course I had a great debate with myself over showing you my lack of skill in the world of stamping. Hopefully you're encouraged to see that everyone starts somewhere.

I know how embossing is  supposed to work, but the process brought about less than perfect results. I've decided to think of it as "rustic" or "distressed" embossing. It would be great to know what I'm doing wrong.  I also tried stamp "kissing" for the first time here. The butterfly is stamped Ruby in both cases here. In one case I embossed the dots (most of the evidence of that didn't stick) and in the other I touched the two stamps together. Won't it be exciting to see me get better at this?? Look below to see an even worse attempt at embossing.

My favorite new item used here is the Make It From Your Heart book of patterns. There are 8 card patterns (one shown here), 2 single pages and 16 double page scrapbooking layouts.

Another astounding truth ... I'm actually willing to link this to this week's Color Dare. It's all about Ruby. What's not to love about a new RED. I'd love to hear your advice on this embossing thing. My biggest question ... how do you get the powder to go where it belongs and nowhere else?
